About the review

The 2024-25 Independent Review of the Climate Change (State Action) Act 2008 (the Act) has commenced. The Tasmanian Government has engaged an independent team to review how the Act is working, and how it might be improved. The review will also consider Tasmania’s climate change governance arrangements.

The Act sets the Tasmanian Government’s legislative framework for action on climate change. The Act requires that an independent review of its operation is undertaken every four years. The Act was most recently reviewed in 2020-21. That review informed a range of amendments to the Act, which were enacted in November 2022.

The independent review team

The independent review team is led by Ricardo in partnership with local firm Era Advisory. The review will be undertaken in accordance with the requirements of the Act and Terms of Reference.

Discussion paper

A discussion paper has been developed to explain the purpose of the Act. The Paper provides a summary of the outcomes of the last review, and an overview of what policies and legislation have changed. It also poses questions for you to consider when providing feedback to help shape the review.

Have your say!

Your feedback will inform the independent review of the Act. It will help shape recommendations about the legislation that guides the Tasmanian Government’s response to climate change. We're seeking feedback from a diverse range of people, including relevant business, industry, scientific, environmental and community bodies, children and young people, local government, relevant unions, the peak body representing trade unions and the Tasmanian community.

How to get involved

We encourage all interested individuals, communities, businesses and organisations to consider the contents of the Discussion Paper and share their insights. Your input will inform the findings and recommendations of the review.
